Headphone recommended!!

As I was going through my Facebook feed, I came across an interesting article where they interviewed Elon Musk about his plan to colonize Mars. I felt inspired and wanted to interpret his plan as a musical narrative. So, I began drafting out a diffusion score with some materials I had about Mars and some of Elon’s quotes. The title “Journey to Mars” represents all the conflicts in the world and the disasters that will be one of the catalysts that start humanity’s journey to the red planet.

The main idea behind the piece is humanity trying to save itself from an unpredictable war and an apocalypse. The form is a through-form, with each form acting as a dialogue. The first dialogue is the introduction to Elon’s plan. The second dialogue, or the second section of the music, is about the war, which is interpreted musically as an environmental soundscape, using materials from the public audio archive. This is followed by the sounds of disasters in the third section. The final part is about SpaceX and their journey to Mars, from launching the rocket here to landing it there. It represents humanity’s first expedition to Mars at the first section and the colonization at the end. Most of the synths used in this piece came from the Teenage Engineering Op-1 and KORG MS-20 mini with SQ-1 (Sequencer).
